It's finally spring, and it feels like it! In this issue of our newsletter, we talk about coyote pupping season, give a sneak peek of our new coyote workbook, introduce our newest fact sheet, and tease an exciting coyote-centric event planned for June 1st in Portland!
Spring is here, and litters of coyote pups are being born across the Portland metro area. Coyote parents will be extra hungry and extra wary during this time, so be sure to give them extra space.
Coyotes generally mate between January and March, and coyote pregnancy lasts about 2 months. Coyote litters average about 4-7 pups. Coyote pups are born between March and May and stay with their parents until at least late summer. During this time, coyotes teach their young important skills, like how to hunt.

Sneak Peek...
With support from Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District, we have been hard at work developing a coyote workbook for use in classrooms, after-school programs, nature camps, at home, and beyond. The workbook is currently being tested in fifth-grade classrooms. We plan to release an online version of the workbook with companion materials for anyone to use for free. As a newsletter subscriber, we are giving you early access to the workbook. We'd love to know what you think! Look out for the full release later this spring!
New Fact Sheet Available
We have a new, simplified fact sheet available for download. This fact sheet has a little less text and a much bigger coyote. We encourage people to color the coyote as accurately or inaccurately as they like and share the results with us. We'd love to post your creations on our website!
Save the date for Coyote-palooza! On June 1st, in collaboration with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Humane Society of the United States, Willamette Riverkeeper, the Institute for Natural Resources, and many other community partners, we will be holding a street fair all about coyotes on the South Park Blocks (just North of the Portland Farmers Market at PSU). Look out for more details closer to the event!
Please Consider Supporting the Coyote Project
Consider making a tax-deductible donation to our project through our Portland State University Foundation account. We will use any funds received to support our mission to understand how people and coyotes interact and to help the community learn about our coyote neighbors. Thank you so much for your continued support!
